REPORT WIMBLEDON STADIUM SUNDAY 5TH OCTOBER SUPERSTOX 2014 CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD ITS A CASE OF DEJA-VU AS JACKO RETAINS HIS TITLE IN ONE OF THE BEST SUPERSTOX RACES OF ALL TIME 41 drivers arrived at an absolutely packed Wimbledon stadium to do battle in tonights meeting. 32 of these were eligible for the World while we had another 9 who were able to do the 2 supporting heats that followed. The drivers were treated to a perfect dry track surface condusive to fast racing and boy was it fast. The first race was the World which saw 32 cars take to the track. The grid can be seen below: INSIDE 177 376 7 955 540 196 212 77 151 975 432 176 717 246 95 279 OUTSIDE 482 265 23 67 53 69 416 483 454 124 532 602 419 811 59 258 The qualifiers were led on to the track by a duo of replica/ original Superstox in the hands of 111 Mac Mccarthy and 691 Brian Bearman. The drivers receiving their qualifying plaques from the Guvnor Deane Wood and the trophy girls Sophie Jackson and Becks.During this we had the hysterical sight of 416 Mark Smith trying to give some lip service to Deane Wood, Deane declining not so gracefully! After this they were greeted by the duo of Dean Cox and Stephen Statto Yates who do so much for the formula with regards to the social media/ stats side of things. Both wishing each driver the best of luck en route to the start line. By now the atmosphere had built nicely in the stadium as the drivers went into their 2 rolling laps. At this point please may I point out that I may get these version of events wrong but this is what I saw. Many apologies in advance if these are incorrect! No sooner had the green flag been waved and we had our first stoppage. 7 Glenn Salmon clashed with 23 Matt Carberry seing Matts car be launched into the home straight fencing in a fair rate of knots. This lead to Carberrys car being launched across the track with several having to take evasive action. Matts car getting severely damaged in the process. During this the Dutch driver 212 Jeroen Laurijssen went leapfrog over the front of another car. As a result we then went into 10 frantic minutes of repair time. Scotsman 53 David Frame repairing a puncture. We then saw the sight of Deane Wood helping out the Northern Irish driver 975 Nathan Beattie to no avail whilst his brother 955 Kyle Beattie was another retirement due to distibutor cap problems. Another driver that was out was the fancied 7 Glenn Salmon but having better fortune was 540 Brett Wesbroom who attached a new bumper to his car. Off we went again and another stoppage a couple of laps later. This time on the Plough Lane turn. 482 Jason Cooper latching on to 67 Chris Roots and the Scotsman 265 Barry Stephen. All 3 hitting the fence hard with the latter 2 retiring whilst 59 Steve Hamilton clipped the Scotsmans car ending in the fence on the entrance to the back straight. For the third time we were off again and another stoppage. This time on the entrance to the home straight. The World champion 376 Steven Jackson latching onto the bumper of the Tartan Tornado from Scotland 177 Stuart Gilchrist, Gilky returning the favour leaning Jacko fencewards when along comes 69 Shaun Brooker to put the Scotsman away resulting in Stuart losing a wheel ending his race to the delight of the English fans. During this incident 602 Dale Fewings and 482 Jason Cooper locked bumpers and were finally separated at the end of the home straight. The atmosphere in the stadium having reached fever pitch at this point. More drama was to come with just a lap to run when 717 Terry Lawrence hit the home straight fencing hard coming to a halt past the starters rostrum. Terrys car gaining significant damage in the incident. This happening with over a lap to run leaving the restart to be run over a lap shootout. However they couldnt catch the defending Champion 376 Steven Jackson, Jacko winning the title for the third time having won it previously in 2006 and 2013. This was his 12th win of the season and his lucky 7th Final win of the season. Steven taking the flag to usual spectacular pyro show. The other place men being the peoples favourite 532 Bobby Davis Jnr with an inspired drive for runners up spot. Coming home in third place was the winner in 2011 151 Nick Smith and ex English Champion 540 Brett Wesbroom in fourth.THUS ENDING ONE OF THE BEST SUPERSTOX RACES IN HISTORY. The winning driver receiving the trophy from the winner of 40 years ago 443 Steve Monk, the other place men being joined on the 2 lap victory parade by 2 time winner 320 Dave Pierce who won in 1968 and 1980 and the winner in 1969 500 Alan Wardropper in a nice touch.
