REPOST: First hand account from volunteer Joe Green (Joseph Castillo) who was on the ground in Tacloban for 4 days. Please take the time to read. ********** I have gone out of Tacloban yesterday, i got on a US C130 along with a lot of taclobanons wanting to go out, My 4 day experience was devastating and sad but this has made me realize that Tacloban and the entire leyte and samar along with other regions that was hit by YOLANDA needs our help. I urge the FILIPINO PUBLIC to please see this situation with facts and understanding the present situation, I am pointing out a few things. 1 The government of the Republic of the Philippines is doing the best they can to put things in order and bring food, i would like to personally commend Sec. Mar Roxas, Sec Soliman, Sec Gazmin for being on the ground. I would like to tell all that they are working and doing there best they can to put things into normalcy with what ever resources we have on the ground. 2 Current situation on the ground as of Tacloban city is concerned, 2 days ago i saw personally military trucks going around with AFP personnel distributing relief goods in the barangays, it is not true that the government is not distributing relief slowly food is being distributed to affected areas and out to the near by municipalities in the region. 3. It is a big challenge for the government to distribute for the fact that there is no man power to use in tacloban except for AFP and PNP who are capable to distribute, and unsecured distribution is not possible due to the desperation of the people to get food. And the machinery needed to distribute like vehicle and gasoline is scarce since it has been all washed away by the storm surge. All the vehicles and resources including our soldiers that only eat once a day just to deliver and haul relief are at full utilization at this point. 4. Peace and order has been restored as of yesterday, a 6pm to 6pm curfew is in place and has been effective in lessening looting and other criminal activities, our PNP is strategically placed in major roads and establishments to secure safety. 5. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE UNCONFIRMED REPORTS YOU SEE ON SOCIAL MEDIA and ON TEXT MESSAGES all this is causing more chaos and confusion if you have not been to tacloban and have not seen things first hand stop the situation on the ground posting hate statuses and unconfirmed reports because as a country i believe we should help one another including our government, PLEASE SET ASIDE POLITICAL ISSUES IN RESPECT TO ALL THE DIED AND ARE NOW SUFFERING IN TACLOBAN AND OTHER AREAS IN OUR COUNTRY. BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE THE GOVERNMENT AND OTHER PEOPLE ON THE GROUND ASK YOUR SELF THIS QUESTION. WHAT AM I DOING TO HELP? IF YOUR NOT DOING ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO RIGHT TO POINT A FINGER AT ANYONE. 6. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO TO TACLOBAN, IF YOUR A NOT READY AND CAPABLE TO BE SELF SUSTAINING FOR THE DURATION OF YOUR TRIP PLEASE STAY PUT AND CHANNEL ALL YOUR RELIEF DONATIONS TO THE ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE or capable organizations or humanitarians organization on the ground already like UN, REDCROSS, OXFAM, WORLDVISION and other organization who has the capability to bring the donations there. DO NOT ADD TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEEDS HELP ON THE GROUND. 7. LET US HELP EACH OTHER US A COUNTRY, LETS GIVE OUR GOVERNMENT A CHANCE TO PERFORM THEIR TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES BY NOT POINT A FINGER AT THEM AND INSTEAD HELP THEM. NO COUNTRY IS PREPARED TO WHAT DESTRUCTION I HAVE SEEN ON THE GROUND. 8. I would like to thank the INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY FOR RESPONDING TO OUR CALL FOR HELP. MY FAITH IN HUMANITY IS FULLY RESTORED! 9. I SALUTE ALL OUR AFP, NAVY, AIR FORCE, PNP, BFP, DOCTORS, AND OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES ALONG WITH THE NGOS AND HUMANITARIAN GROUPS ON THE GROUND. Let us continue to pray for our country that we may be able to recover and i pray for peace among us that we set aside hate and just pour out love and understanding for all those who are helping in this calamity, i pray for all who has families who are affected and still missing i pray for Gods love and compassion over you, for all that died may you REST IN PEACE. GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES, BABANGON ANG PILIPINAS!
