REPOST: People all jumped on the gravy train about Harry Belafonte calling out Jay-Z for not giving to charity. First of all, Belafonte went about it the wrong way. How do you shame someone, especially someone as cocky as Jay-Z, into being charitable? Secondly, Belafonte came from an era when charity was a way of life, Jay-Z didnt. Third, Belafonte loves black people, except when its time to get married. Finally, if Jay-Z gives millions to charity, how will you be affected. How many of yall pass by the hungry daily and turn up your nose? How many of yall see a child in your neighborhood who needs shoes or clothes, and do nothing? How many of you took your asses to the mission to help serve food lately? How many of you responded to those texts from the Red Cross requesting a $10 donation? How many of yall signed up with the Peace Corps or Americorps? How many of yall are praying for a new car, a raise or some other personal betterment when you know children are starving and people are dropping like flies from cancer? How many of yall run and take 10% of what you make to keep your pastor in Gucci and gold, but when they ask if you want to donate a $1 to Feed the Children or St. Jude at the register, you, decline? Charity lives in your heart. So before you worry about Jay-Z not sharing enough of his millions with those less fortunate, worry about sharing some of your thousands, or at minimum some of your time with the forgotten ones.
