RESTAURANT REVIEW: Went to dinner at my friend James Kings Restaurant tonight, Kings Bayou Catering in downtown Bernie, MO and was absolutely blown away. As soon as I was in the door, I spied an appetizer I wanted to try, the Corn & Jalapeno Hush Puppies, with a remoulade dipping sauce. They were HUGE and had I not liked my company, I would have Bogarted his serving too. They arrived, pipping hot, crispy on the outside, and creamy and tender on the inside. Just the right amount of corn and bits of pepper, and a tiny bit of sauce made these something you MUST try. They are not too pepper-hot so even your children could enjoy them. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, which was so much more impressive than those two words, its a generous amount of blackened shrimp, with the best smoked cheddar grits Ive ever eaten. I opted for the creole corn saute and I can tell you now, its delicious buttery corn kernels, with a tiny bit of cajun spice and it would make anyone from 5-105 happy. My meal with very generously sized, and I couldnt finish the whole thing. My Companion loves the Cape Cajun Restaurant, (Broussards) and he was blown away at the quality and taste of everything he ordered. He ate every bite of his Shrimp Ettouffe. I saw his also has bits of grilled chicken and the famous andouille sausage served on a bed of jambalaya rice. We both remarked at how James attention to detail, adding in crisp, smokehouse bacon chopped and added to the top of the entrees, was a step most restaurants would never add Every Dish I saw walking by, I wanted to try it next! The seafood au gratin appetizer is definitely my next thing to choose. I saw the biggest portion of Cajun Meatloaf walk by on a servers arm, it looked fantastic!! We want to try everything on the menu for sure. If James would listen to my plea----when he rolls out his wonderful idea of desserts, to please add in a robust Coffee to accompany any decedent dessert, and I know they will be wonderful, the Coffee would absolutely put the whole experience over the top. I would not change a thing, at all, and want to tell everyone that can get to this place, YOU WILL NOT BE ANYTHING BUT IMPRESSED. Today - James Gets FOUR SPARKLERS, and I will gladly revisit & review once I talk him into adding a coffee service with his desserts. :D
