RESTORE AGRICULTURE TO ITS FORMER GLORY. At independence in 1960,agriculture was the mainstay of the Nigerian economy. Decline in agricultural production began with the advent of oil in the 1970s. I urge the Federal and State Governments to make agricultural policies that will ensure that those (private people) interested in farming have access to land and create enabling environment for farmers. I call on the State Governments to initiate more agricultural projects in collaboration with the Local Government Councils in order to overcome the problem of Land Tenure System prevalent in some geopolitical zones of the country. Land Tenure System has been a major constraint on agricultural mechanization/commercialization. We must move away from small-scale farming (subsistence level) to large-scale farming (commercial) in order to make agriculture more attractive,create more employment opportunities and provide more food to Nigerians.
