RESULT - PREMIER LEAGUE 30.08.14 BRIGHOUSE 0 vs 6 LEEDS CITY So Wednesday nights win really did kick start the boys. City were up against an unbeaten Brighouse side who had started the season well with 2 wins and 2 draws. City were in from the start and Dixon could have put City in front after seconds but lashed his shot over the bar. But the game changed with one dramatic incident.... 10 minutes into this enthralling encounter Citys left back Charlie Lumley was involved in a challenge which left him writhing in agony on the ground. It wasnt clear from the sideline what had happened. Play was stopped for 3 minutes whilst the referee decided whether he should let Citys waterboy Joe Liddell come and assist his comrade. Lumley was suitably shuffled to the touchline and play resumed. It transpires that Lumley lost all his bearings and the sheer weight of his chin caused the defenders head to hit the ground, on its way catching his ankle which buckled under the force. Whilst Lumley was off the pitch receiving treatment, City took the lead. The 10 men battled to win posession and Mezut Johnson released Shaz Frankland who slotted home one on one. Lumley could not continue and new boy Ste Tierney replaced him - much to the relief of the travelling support. City were playing some wonderful football and looked on course to double the advantage. Franklands strike partner made it 2-0 in the 24th minute after an exchange of passes released the Swiss Sunday International down the wing to record his 141st goal in City colours. City could and should have extended the lead, but Hochstrasser hot the frame of the goal as did Dixon. Alex Miller was guilty of missing some fantastic opportunities much to the frustration of the returning Yorath who was keeping guard in the City goal. Id like to say Brighouse threatened, but they didnt. City were under know threat and controlled the game in its entirety. Miller had a goal disallowed before city turned the pressure into goals. DIxon was in the recieving end of some good play by Tierney and cut insoide from the right to fire home left footed. 3-0 game over and 23 minutes left on the clock. Frankland got a second moments later when Johnson threaded the ball through to him, he turned in the area and curled a lovely strike into the top corner. Tierney then got his 2nd Leeds City Goal in as many starts. He volley a shot from the edge of the area after a Brighouse defender failed to clear. The keeper should have saved but let the ball roll underneath him. 5-0. Was there time for Frankland to get his hat-rick. He was shooting from anywhere as his confidence grew. Subs Walker & McCann-Tomlin were providing him with chances. It was the 3rd minute of stoppage time and Leeds unsung game hero, Captain McIntosh burst into he area only to be upended by a weary Brighouse defender. Up stepped Frankland..........................and missed (obviously) but he managed to fire home thee rebound 6-0 and much deserved. Yorath, McGurk, Lumley (Tierney 15), Dutson, Instone, Dixon (Walker 74), A.Miller, Johnson, McIntosh, Frankland, Hochstrasser (McCann-Tomlin 74) Unused: Berry Att: 24
