RESULTS ARE NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY Those of us who enjoy and understand the power of setting goals and doing the work to achieve them often make a common mistake. It’s one that can cause our confidence to crumble and zap our energy and motivation. The error is assuming that we have control over results. The fact is, we don’t. Consider this example: We plant seeds in the soil of a flower garden. We can control how much water the garden gets, how much the soil is nourished, and we can clear away weeds and obstructions so that the sunlight gets in. But, and this is a big but, we can’t make the flowers grow. That’s beyond our control and therefore not our responsibility. Whatever the power is that created life to begin with is in charge of such matters. We can take responsibility for creating the right conditions in the garden, but when the flower blooms, it’s an illusion to believe that we made it happen. The same is true with our bodies and lives. We’re responsible for creating the right conditions; we’re not in control of the results. When we come to truly accept and understand this, we again experience a powerful shift in our mindset. At that point, our specific goals for the future become guideposts that show us which actions we need to take in order to create the right conditions for transformation to occur. Again, I want to emphasize that whatever the intelligent, creative energy is that gave us life in the first place (however you want to see that) is what’s responsible for any healing and renewal of our bodies, minds and emotions. That force is always there, trying to do its job—trying to restore healthy balance. What Knowing this, it becomes clear that in order to feel a sense of accomplishment, confidence, and positive energy, we need to measure our success not by results but whether we honored our responsibility and took control of the things that are within our reach. For example, we can control whether we exercise today or not; whether we eat healthy today or not; whether we follow through and complete our weekly action steps or not. When we do those things, we’ve done all we can. From there it’s important to surrender the rest. We actually must let go of any attachment to the outcome and have faith that whatever’s meant to happen from there will happen. Not only does that help us enjoy peace of mind and fulfillment, but according to experts in the manifesting process, letting go is essential for the creative culmination of what was set in motion. HOW DO WE KNOW IF WE’VE TRULY LET GO? A sure sign that we haven’t let go is that we ruminate and fuss—we question ourselves and the method. In doing so, we send out a conflicted, untrusting energy frequency which not only negatively affects our emotional health, but again, according to many wise and thoughtful teachers, interferes with the fulfillment and receiving of the best possible outcome. Those who truly get that all they can do is the best they can do at the things that are within their control enjoy better results and have a more confident mindset too.
