REUNITED! :) Dexter is home after THREE WEEKS! He is an indoor only kitty who escaped his home on May 15th in East Nashville. His owner waged an AMAZING search and did not give up. He put up hundreds of signs, knocked on doors and spent time sitting up all night through many nights to watch his yard. For the first several nights, Dexter was missing completely with sightings further up Gallatin Road. He feared that he was moving further and further away from home. Due to construction at the house next door and loud restaurants on his street, he feared that Dexter would be too scared to come home. Then one night, Dexter showed up on wildlife camera on their own porch. Im pretty sure this was due to the owners putting out his dirty litter and food for him as a scent perimeter. He found home again! :) For the next couple of weeks, his owner tried trapping with no avail. Then sitting with the front door open all night to see if Dexter would come in. By keeping sardines out for him, most nights Dexter would come out of hiding around 3:00 in the morning and eat and run back for cover somewhere. He would often see Dexter in the middle of the night but Dexter was too afraid to come to him. (Many times this is the way with cats. Keep in mind that they have NOT decided that they like it better outside. They are just so afraid that they become scared of everything, including their own owner. This is classic lost cat behavior.) Finally, he borrowed a drop trap from PCC and after practicing with it and very careful planning over the course of several days, Dexter was trapped last night and is now SAFE. To those of you who are still missing your pets, please do not give up. Your lost pets are NOT choosing to be out there in the wild. They are not on adventures. They want you to find them as much as you hope to do so. Sometimes it takes a lot of hard work and strategy but pets who are long-term missing can be found again. Were so glad that Dexter is finally back indoors and home! :)
