REVEALED: Chelsea made £118M bid for Barcelona star Messi Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich made a stunning attempt to tempt Barcelona star Lionel Messi to London, it has been revealed. TV3 says Chelsea submitted a monster £118m bid for Barcelona star Messi over the summer. Jose Mourinho tried his luck with a huge offer to lure the Argentinian star to the Premier League. The formal approach, which equates to €150m, was rejected by the Catalan giants and Messi went on to sign a new deal in May to keep him at the Nou Camp until 2018. Chelsea raked in around £80m in the last transfer window which would have given the Blues the financial clout to complete the deal. Man Utd, Arsenal alerted as Reus rejects BVB contract talks Marco Reus is ready to leave Borussia Dortmund. The Daily Star says Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have been boosted by the news Reus will not renew his contract at Borussia Dortmund. It is being reported that Reus has told Dortmund he has no intention of renewing his deal which expires in 2017. Theoretically Reus could leave on a free in two-seasons time it is far more likely that a battle for his signature will erupt next summer when a host of clubs activate his £20m release clause. While on the face of it this is certainly good news for Reus Premier League suitors, it is also claimed that a deal has been struck between the German and Real Madrid. Pellegrini happy Man City offering Hart new terms Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is happy for the club to offer Joe Hart new terms. Despite delays and speculation over Hart benched for yesterdays game at Hull joining them in that elite group, it looks as though the wrangle will be sorted out. Pellegrini said: We will see in the future. At this moment we are talking about other things but we are not going to have any problems with Joe Lerner willing to sell Villa for £100m Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner is ready to cut his losses over the sale of the club. The Telegraph says Lerner had hoped to sell the club for £200m but is now ready to accept just half of that after eight years in charge. Potential bidders for Aston Villa believe that Randy Lerner may now be willing to sell for just £100 million - half of what was thought to be the original asking price when he put the Premier League club up for sale in May and only around a third of what he has spent. Lerner had hoped to recoup £200 million for Villa but, despite tentative discussions with interested parties and the American businessman issuing another statement in July claiming the sale process had been productive, no buyer has been found by Bank of America, which is handling the sale. The official asking price is now thought to be £150 million, and a so-called indicative price is said to be £125 million. But bidders believe Lerner would be prepared to sell for as little as £100 million and understand he has to cut his losses. Arsenal boss Wenger convinced Tottenham soon to be sold Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is convinced Joe Lewis wants to sell Tottenham. Wenger was speaking before yesterdays 1-1 draw. “It looks like they want to sell the club,” said Wenger. “If an owner comes in and says, ‘I put £400 million to buy the stadium’, it is easy. “The way we did it is the hardest way, because we had no outside financial help and had to negotiate with the banks just to get the money at the start. We had a lot of financial problems. In the end we build the stadium for £400 million and we paid £120 million just for the site. Today it would cost £600 million, £650 million or £700 million.”
