REVIEW: Blut aus Nord - Triunity Split This bands output is inhumane. And with such a high level of releases, you run the risk to overexert people and in return become less relevant. But is that the case with Blut aus Nord? Their newest release is a split with P.H.O.B.O.S. (Im not going to review their part, I just cant get into it at all) and it features 3 new songs. I really didnt know what type of expectations to put into this and almost wrote it off as pretty much just another mini release before even hearing it. But as soon as I hit play I was struck by what appeared to be REAL drums. Yes, you did not misread that. And what a great move this was. I was personally never bothered by their Industrial aesthetic type of drum programming, but those new songs really come to life thanks to the more organic sounding production. The opening track De Librio Arbitrio is a haunting mid-tempo heavyweight with great dissonant melodies and a few somewhat choral overtones. Those are expanded in Hubris, which brings me back to the more ambient vibes of 777 - Cosmosophy. On the other hand, the track features a riff full of stomping chuggy heavyness, which creates a very strong contrast. The final track of Blut aus Nords part starts off dark and dissonant. Its by far my favourite track on this output. The riffs and melodies are just a tad more on point and sinister. Just like the other tracks on this split, Némeïnn does not feature any blastbeats, something that seems to be a thing of the bands past for the most part. All in all, the tracks on Triunity embody a dark and haunting unit with a nice dynamic range of moods and emotions, all within the niche that Blut aus Nord have created for themselves. I really do welcome the use of real drums. Its quite a game changer, because the harsh industrial cold simply isnt there anymore. All Im left with now is curiosity about whats to come...
