REVIEW: First and foremost, Ive never seen the original Broadway musical, so I was pretty blind. But here the Lilac sing-song of Sondheim works well. Brilliant lyrics with the most lush of scores. Sondheim and Lapines bold brash take really shouldnt shock us. Imagine the Grimms imploding impact when they came into vogue. The weaving of these characters and their tempestuous web of six-degree separation is iced ginger cookies for the rest of us. Each of us having fathomed our own ideation of these legendary icons. Of course they held their own vocally. Kendrick was quirky enough, Blunt a Bundt of joy to watch and hear, Cordens everyman baker has enough neuroriticism to actually work. Depp does just enough to make one uncomfortable. Streep, whom I do not worship, was a dream. She kills it, but the lines are there for her to. Still I add her performance was stellar. The beatific scenery and on location sensation soothed my savage soul. The dark visages made me watch, loom for detail, of which there is no shortage. Im totally for this phenomenon. Perhaps Im ready to tackle more SONDHEIM
