REWARD on offer is now $18,000 .... $18,000 REWARD! OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. Please share this story! In the early hours of May 30, someone abandoned a severely injured and abused German shepherd at the doors of Oakland Animal Services (OAS). The horrific abuse case has galvanized animal welfare organizations and concerned individuals. Friends of Oakland Animal Services, PETA, Pet Food Express, Animal Legal Defense Fund, and private donors have put together a reward of $18,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. The four- or five-year-old dog had a bungee cord wrapped around her neck and legs; some of the cord was embedded in her neck. She was emaciated, with open wounds, and her kidneys and other organs were in failure. OAS director Dave Cronin called it one of the worst cases of animal abuse he has seen. “We know that she was in someone’s back yard and we want someone to step up and have the courage to say ‘that dog belongs to my neighbor,’ ” Cronin said. Video surveillance, some of which can be seen in this NBC Bay Area story, captured the individual in the act of abandoning the dog, and investigations are ongoing. Due to her the amount of pain she was in, she had to be humanely euthanized. Please contact the Oakland Police Department at 510-777-3333 with any information.
