RHC students began a new unit on Pilgrims & Indians today!! We had a blast learning how the Pilgrims (along with sailors and some who were up for an adventure) made their difficult voyage from England to find new land. We learned that life on the Mayflower wasnt easy...they could only bring what would fit in a trunk. Students enjoyed making their own trunks and deciding what they would bring on the Mayflower. They also got to taste hardtack (what the sailors called the hard biscuits) and salt horse (salted beef). 90 % of RHC students enjoyed food that would have been eaten on the Mayflower and would have made the voyage. Students also enjoyed making their own butter just like the Pilgrims did and tasting it, too! Yummy!! We finished our day by making our own Mayflower boats that could float and talking about things that were/were not on the Mayflower. Looking forward to learning what happened when the Pilgrims came to Plymouth next week!!
