RHEMA THE BAND. The concept for the band started around 18 years ago, with a small group of frustrated Christian musicians who wanted to show the world around them that Christians didnt have 2 heads, carry big bibles to hit people over the head with and didnt always wear sandals. So without a name for the band they began to rehearse old mowtown and soul songs. Played a few student gigs, weddings and birthday parties in a number of venues around Manchester and decided to put on a cabaret night in the building now known as Kings on Sidney Street Manchester. People from all over Manchester came to the night which was a real success. So another night was decided on and this lead to people none Christians offering to help with the room design, drapes swags and tails a bar and all manner of things. Guests on the night included a couple of millionaires, a group of gay men, and large number of people who had never and would never go into a church building. The result was that over the months to come people through an informed choice came into relationship with Jesus. Somewhere in the middle of all this the band became known as RHEMA and musicians some who where disillusioned with church came back into relationship with God. On the last count,with a fading memory, over 45 musicians, singers, soundmen lighting and road crew were part of that experience which was started by a young Welsh man who was a drummer (student) with a small vision for something outside of the church norm.
