Rhino are poached by corrupt people so the horns can be sold on the black market. Many Asian countries, such as Vietnam and China pay large sums of money in the illegal trade of rhino horns . 2. Rhino horns are used in traditional medicine, and some people in many Asian countries believe, when ground up into a powder, it is a cure for cancer. 3. When rhinos are poached it has a negative impact on the environment because it can lead to loss of biodiversity This will lead to the collapse of food chains. 2. Rhino poaching has a negative impact on ecotourism. As a result jobs can be lost, which has a negative impact on our economy. Elephants and rhinos are part of the BIG FIVE which are part of our heritage. Tourists save up their money and come from all over the world to see them. Without the tourists our economy would decline. 3. Rhino Poaching will soon lead to extinction of the species – there will be no rhinoceros left for our children’s children to see and admire. More than 1000 rhino were killed in South Africa in 2013. Government data shows at least 821 have been killed illegally so far this year, 531 of them in the Kruger (Oct 2014). The 2014 total is widely expected to exceed 2013, when a record number of rhinos were poached. any 3 Strategies To Prevent The Poaching • Impose imprisonment instead of heavy fines, for those that break the law.
