RHRC launches “Isang Bata…Isang Bola” Program In line with the commemoration of International Human Rights Day, the Regional Human Rights Commission in partnership with the Maharlika Sports Development, Inc. launched the “Isang Bata…Isang Bola” Program yesterday, December 10, at ORG Compound wherein 100 young Soccer enthusiasts of ARMM received free Soccer balls. According to Engr. Edgar Te, head of Maharlika Sports Development, Inc., the program has been carefully planned for around three years and since its inception, they have been looking for the perfect venue to launch it. He also said that the soccer ball represents the child’s right to play and have fun. He also cited the psychological impact of play and recreation to the children in Mindanao whose minds have been corrupted by relentless wars. He explained that through fun, the children would be able to somehow forget their spiteful experiences. This partnership between the Maharlika and the RHRC is envisioned to last for the “longevity” (not merely sustainability) of the program. Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child states that children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities.
