RICHARD ANDERSON RECEIVES THE CDC 2011 TRANSPORTATION AWARD Mr. Richard Anderson recently received the CDC 2011 Transportation Award presented by The Coordinating & Development Corporation at a CDC Executive Committee Meeting held in Magnolia, AR on Thursday, November 10, 2011. This distinguished award recognizes expertise in developing transportation - in this case high speed passenger rail - Amtrak. A native of Marshall in Harrison County, Texas, Richard Anderson is an attorney, businessman, and rancher who is a former three-term Harrison County Judge and former Texas State Senator. He majored in Economics and History at Texas A&M and graduated from Baylor Law School. He & his wife, Christina, have worked with great devotion on efforts to expand and improve higher speed rail in the Ark-La-Tex region. He currently serves as Chairman of the East Texas Corridor Council, a non-profit organization which advocates for improved passenger rail service along the South Central High Speed Rail Corridor. Earlier this year, Judge Anderson was named the 2010 Regional Statesman of the Year by the East Texas Council of Governments, an association representing counties, cities, school districts, and special districts within a 14-county region in East Texas. Also, in October 2011, Judge Anderson was appointed by Bill Glavin, the Executive Director of the Texas Department of Transportation Rail Division to serve on the Texas State Rail Planning Committee. Judge Anderson is one of only 7 members appointed to this advisory board. The board is charged with designing a plan of action regarding rail service in the State of Texas to be submitted the Texas Transportation Committee. Judge Anderson is a past Vice President of the Regents Circle for Texas State Technical College and currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Wiley College, Home of the Great Debaters. He also serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce.
