RICHARDs comment: Hello, why the rush to judgement? And a judgement it is! Lots of stigmas, expectations, myths, doom and gloom come with the diagnosis. No real treatments in the sense of disease modifying actions. Now there is a bounty! About a third of those diagnosed with alzheimers will later be diagnosed with some other form of dementia, about half those diagnosed with MCI will get better or no worse and never progress to Alzheimers. Yet, GPs will still collect their money! Does this make any sense from a patients perspective? Why not invest in psycho social research and help folks with cognitive disabilities better cope with them, regardless of the words their physician used to label the cause of their disability. And while we are thinking about causality, can anyone prove Alzheimers disease causes anything? Or is it at least for now, and perhaps forever, simply a correlation, not a cause and effect? Well intended, but clearly ill informed experts are rushing after available money without science, reason, logic or experience. And heaven forbid they should ask the real experts, folks living with the symptoms how best they would like to be treated. This area of public health is a crisis and it is in crises. Age, greed, misinformation, good intentions, ignorance, and arrogance just complicate evidence based solutions. The madness, misspending, harms are magnified by politicians, empire builders, and fear driven caregivers. Must a reasonable voice fall mostly on the shoulders of those having the most legitimate issues with controlling their cognitive abilities to be reasonable? Such seems to be the case. This is awful! For all of us, and most especially for those living with the symptoms of dementia. Stand up and speak out about this situation. Please, do it now. Richard
