RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH 2 Timothy 3:16 KJ “ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”: Paul was getting ready to go home to the Lord and he was giving final warnings/instructions to his son in the faith Timothy who was Pastoring at Ephesus. In prior verses he had just warned about deception and deceivers. This scripture is Paul’s reminder to Timothy about the value of the Word. Let’s break it down: ALL SCRIPTURE…not some or most…ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration from God. Don’t ever let anyone ever tell you the Bible is not God’s inspired Word. We just read it. It is not Paul’s opinion….it is an ETERNAL TRUTH. God inspired the scriptures. The N.I.V. reads like this: “All Scripture is God-breathed” When we open the Bible we are putting ourselves under the very breath of God. The only times I am close enough to be under the breath of my wife is when we are closely intimate. Exactly, Bible Reading should be an EVENT. Us, sharing closely intimate moments with God. And when God breathes on something….life comes! (Life for Adam, Life of the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on the disciples….) Here’s another Eternal Truth…ALL SCRIPTURE IS PROFITABLE. I would challenge you today: List what is profitable in your life and what is not profitable…..remove the unprofitable. Scripture is not just generically profitable, but it is specifically profitable in 4 areas: ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for DOCTRINE. If you are a Christian you don’t get to make the rules in your life….scripture does that. IF you are not letting scripture decide your doctrines, if you have no desire to have scripture decide your doctrines…then you need to repent and ask Jesus to come into your life and experience the new birth ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for REPROOF. The Word of God will proof-read you. He will search you out for errors and mistakes. He will inspect you for flaws and deformities. ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for CORRECTION. I absolutely love this…He will not only point out your errors and flaws and mistakes and deformities…He will fix them for you. ALL SCRIPTURE is like a spiritual spell check! ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS Okay Saints, class is in, the subject is righteousness and the teacher is ALL SCRIPTURE. God wants you “structured in or constructed or built up” in righteousness. Righteousness simply put is you being made to look like God….by knowing Him I encourage all, when you make your list about what is profitable in life, put ALL SCRIPTURE at the top I’m Ron Geyer and we are RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH!
