RIP DENNIS WILSON & JOE COCKER. 31 years ago today, on December 28, 1983, we lost the legendary Dennis Wilson in an accidental drowning when hed been drinking all day & dove into Marina Del Rey. Dennis was amazingly talented... and tortured. His PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE solo LP was a minor masterpiece... perhaps even a moodier flip side to Pet Sounds in its vulnerable, soul-bearing songwriting. Those of us who saw The Beach Boys live in the 1970s remember the way the encore always began... with.Dennis singing this from the heart to his female fans... and everyone! Though not officially credited as the songs writer, Dennis and Billy Preston spontaneously collaborated on the words and music to the song at a party... but the song was officially credited to Preston and Bruce Fisher, his frequent collaborator. Dennis Wilson never sought to reclaim his share of the songs authorship... unheard of by todays standards.
