RIP MUNCHKIN - YOU WERE LOVED BY MANY AND WILL BE MISSED!! SAFE Team is very sad to say that our little Munchkin had to be put down due to injuries that could not be treated. He was found at 8 weeks old by a bylaw officer. She knew there was an obvious injury to his leg and he was taken to a vet. Unfortunately they do not have the funds to treat animals only get an opinion based on first glance what may be wrong. Without any xrays the vet they saw believed he may have a broken leg and due to financials he would be put down. SAFE Team was asked to step into help give this little kitty a second chance and Munchkin came into care. After examination and xrays by our vet it was discovered Munchkin did not have a broken leg but yet was rather paralyzed due to a spinal injury. He had a huge gash in his side, road burn across his face, an injury to his jaw, paralysis in both hind legs and was unable to use the washroom by himself. Our clinic attempted surgery to remove the part of the spine that was crushed in hopes that if they could get the pressure off of the nerves in the spine he may regain use of his legs and use the washroom on his own again. Unfortunately the trauma to the spine was much to great and was unrepairable. Due to quality of life issues it was decided it would be best for Munchkin to go to Heaven where he can be happy and pain free. Based on the impact, type and pattern of the injuries our vet believes he was likely thrown out of a moving vehicle :( The reality that a cruel act may have caused this little kitty not only all the suffering but ultimately his life is a hard pill to swallow. Please help protect animals like Munchkin!! Report any abusive or neglectful behaviour you see to your local animal protection agency and lets make this world a little safer for them! Although we only knew Munchkin for a short time he really made his way into our hearts and he will truly be missed and always loved by the people who had the pleasure of meeting him!
