RIP Mrs. Ruby Dee! Another Class Act. From the original A Raisin in the Sun (1961) to so many other plays and movies she was truly a legend. I Remrmber her in Jungle Fever with Wesley Snipes and Samuel N. Jackson and Do The Right Thang with her husband Ossie Davis. Honored to have met her once at Howard, but more honored to just see her work in winning countless awards including A Grammy, Emmy, Obie, Drama Desk, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Awards as well as being honored by the Kennedy Center. She was nominated for an Oscar too, for her portrayal of Denzel Washingtons Mom in American Gangster. But, most importantly, she and Mr. Davis, who attended Howard, were big Civil Rights Activists and used their celebrity to address serious causes affecting Blacks in the 60s. Ruby Dee played opposite baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson in his autobiographical movie; and she and her husband spoke at both the funerals of Dr. King and Malcolm X. Its strange because for years, you always said, Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee together like it was just one, because they were. Now, theyve joined as one in Heaven Together:) RIP, Job Well Done. #IconWhoseShouldersWeStandOn#
