RIP Retired SSO K9 Rommel. K9 Rommel, a German Shepherd, was born in Hungary September 1, 2002 and joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2004. He was trained in tracking and the apprehension of criminals, building and area searches, along with narcotic odor detection. During K9 Rommel’s and Sgt. Scott Mruczek’s partnership, Rommel had some amazing accomplishments. He played a critical role in the location of a lewd and lascivious suspect in the Palmer Ranch area. He assisted in the search for Denise Amber Lee and the weapon that was used in her murder. He located a small child who had wandered from his home and into some woods. He also located a weapon that had been used in a home invasion robbery. These are just a few of his many accomplishments. Rommel was injured during a training exercise in March 2010 and subsequently retired. Rommel enjoyed his retirement with his handler Sgt. Scott Mruczek. K9 Rommel passed away in his sleep during the early morning hours of 7/24/14.
