RIP Robin Williams. You were from my hometown and made me laugh - TopicsExpress

RIP Robin Williams. You were from my hometown and made me laugh many times throughout my life. You were a part of growing up. You touched so many hearts. Reports of your death being related to suicide is just another reminder and wake up call that people surround us daily with depression. They lose hope and turn to what they believe to be their last option. There is so much stigma surrounding suicide that people in this society are afraid to discuss it openly. When my Dad took his life in 2012 I decided to not be quiet. I openly shared his story to the point where I am sure it annoyed people, but no way in hell was I going to keep quiet. My Dad struggled for years and finally at 61 years of age he was successful. That phone call changed my life. Surprisingly, I was overwhelmed with the amount of private messages that I received from people who either attempted to take their own lives and never shared with anyone, people who had loved ones who committed suicide and never shared or discussed it and then those who reached out to me because they thought a loved one may be in serious danger. There are signs people. Please pay attention to those around you. Today you could save a life. Today unfortunately we lost a great human being who touched the world with his amazing talent. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams family. Suicide hotline: If you are in crisis, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255)
