RIPOSTE TO A RIPOSTE Sir, whether we like him or not, he is our President. He deserves the privilege and power given by the people. He rose to power by a plurality of votes, no other President had achieved. Human as we are, the President is no perfect person. @Jose: Whos saying he is not? Who says we question his having won by a plurality of votes? It doesnt mean though that because he is president we cannot disagree and criticize him. Joe, this really makes me sad. We love to claim we are a democracy but time and time again we prove by our attitude towards people in power that we are still acting like Filipinos living during the Spanish period when dissent was never allowed and people fear to criticize because it might land them in jail. When we elect someone to the highest position in the land, we do not do so out of expectation he is perfect or that he is a superman. Yes, Pnoy is human and imperfect, so why do people feel we who criticise him should not do so? Di ba only perfect people are beyond question and reproach? Only two presidents in our country stayed in office longer than their first term: Marcos and GMA. Both were human and imperfect, too, and we heavily criticized them for what we perceived were their mistakes. What makes Pnoy so special? When we criticize government officials we do so out of exercizing our legal right under our so-called democratic space. Perhaps, only when I call for Pnoys extralegal ouster can people say I have overstepped my bounds and is guilty of treason. Obviously, our people still has a lot to learn about how to live in freedom in a democratic society.
