Selections from my work "Self Portrait As...." have joined the permanent collection and will be on view throughout the duration of this show. Celebrate the opening of this show with Local Makers on July 18, 5-9 pm. Join us for a free block party, exciting programs and events inside the Museum and out, favorite local food trucks and a cash bar on Benefit Street, and a special outdoor concert by Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons. “Perhaps the most anticipated night of the summer,” says Rhode Island Monthly. "The RISD Museum’s newest exhibition, Locally Made, celebrates the region’s rich pool of talent in various—and sometimes surprising—genres. On Thursday, July 18, we open the show with a free, fun Design the Night: Block Party on Benefit Street, 5-9 pm. Locally Made is on view through November 3. In Locally Made, recent acquisitions to the Museum’s collection, video works, performance art and creative experiments, and more expand across three gallery spaces. Paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and photographs—most on view for the first time—fill the Upper Farago Gallery, created by nearly 40 local artists.Works by local filmmakers are screened in the Spalter New Media Gallery, selected by guest curator Dina Deitsch (Contemporary Art Curator, deCordova Museum). The Museum’s Lower Farago Gallery is transformed into a multifaceted experimental space for One Room programs, in which invited artists, designers, performers, brainiacs, and other community innovators (YOU!) share ideas and processes through daily talks, creative experiments, art demonstrations, and unexpected happenings. At the heart of One Room is a new but nostalgic interactive installation, School House Long House."
