RIYADH/JEDDAH – A high-ranking source in Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) disclosed to Okaz/Saudi Gazette on a tripartite alliance among the Ministry of Labor, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the chambers of commerce in the Kingdom so as to test all specialist workers like salesmen, mechanics, painters and plumbers, among others before they enter the Kingdom. The source said there is dumping in the sanitary ware and household repair shops. The source further said that there are plans to expand the services of specialist companies that are owned and managed by Saudi nationals so as to employ legal workers. As to the prices of these companies, against which citizens and expatriates complained, the source said they have got to focus on quality. The source said prices cannot be controlled in any country. He said several factors have affected the prices. A member of the Recruitment Committee in Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Said Al-Ghamdi told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that human resources in companies and establishments supervise the selection of their workers themselves. Also, the company owner makes sure that he chooses the workers himself. As to the tripartite alliance that will test workers, Al-Ghamdi said the matter has not been implemented yet. He ruled out its implementation because private companies and establishments and employers are careful to test workers before they arrive in the Kingdom. He said if inefficient workers are recruited the first loser is the employer and the recruiting company. He added that the need does not stop at a plumber, painter or mechanic. Logically, a firm owner cannot spoil the reputation of his firm due to a non-specialist worker, but the problem is in the worker himself as he claims to be skillful in the job. The problem lies with the internal supervision authorities to make sure that workers do not open shops without permits and claim to be experienced in these professions.
