RM BRIEFED ON UPCOMING MILITARY ESTABLISHMENTS IN EASTERN COMMAND Kolkata: Sunday, August 24, 2014 Defence Minister Shri Arun Jaitley was today briefed on the upcoming Behrampore Military Station, in Murshidabad District of West Bengal. He was also briefed on the expansion plans at the Panagarh Cantonment briefly. Army Chief General Dalbir Singh, here in Eastern Command on a two-day visit since Saturday, and Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen MMS Rai were also present during the 30-minute briefing held near the campsite whose foundation plaque was earlier laid by the President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in February. The Rs. 600 Cr project in the 250-acre land is set to be an eco-friendly model military camp that will be replicated in all future infrastructural developments of similar military stations wherever feasible. The military station will integrate the existing topography, natural features and water bodies among other things. Located nearly mid-way between Kolkata and Siliguri, the military station when ready will also help boost the local economy in the area, the Defence Minister was briefed. Earlier, Gen Dalbir Singh who arrived at the Fort William HQ of Eastern Command on Saturday was briefed on various operational preparedness and readiness of the Command. Before leaving for Behrampore early today, he laid a wreath at the Vijay Smarak. The Army Chief also visited Panagarh Military Camp later where he was briefed on the ongoing operational preparations for raising of the Armys latest Strike Corps.
