ROAD KILL IS OK.......I have been asked if road kill is an ok way of collecting tails for the PEST TRAPPERS competition at the Sika Show. While we would prefer to have vermin trapped we will accept road kill. When I was 14 and beginning my career as a fly tier I didnt have much in the way of feathers, furs etc and they were expensive to buy. So I coerced my Dad into stopping on the side of the road when he saw dead vermin and I would leap out with my plastic bag and knife and get possum tails, rabbit fur, pukeko feathers etc etc and then jump back in the car with my prized possessions. Now Dad was happy because he was getting flies off me and didnt have to buy them anymore but I never worked out what Mumss reaction was because I was distracted by the cacophony of noise like oooooooooohhhhhhhhh YUK coming from my sister Jenny Cade on the other side of the back seat. So while we would like you to trap vermin, if you are committed enough to go through that and bring the tails to the Sika Show we will accept them!!!
