ROAD UPGRADES - Gocup and Bombowlee Creek Roads GOCUP ROAD is classified as a State Road and late last year NSW Roads and Maritime Services funded $1.2m for the renewal of Gocup Road, Meadow Creek South. Over the past four months, SnowyWS has re-aligned and widened the road and a new pavement constructed. The presence of a small colony of the endangered Silky Swainson Pea plants required protection and despite numerous rain interruptions the job is nearing completion within budget and on time. Extensive earthworks have pushed the steep batter further off the road with culvert extensions and drainage structures installed. A new road surface was constructed with original pavement shape corrected, a DGB20 gravel overlay placed and compacted and a 10mm primer bitumen seal laid. The Brifen wire rope safety fence is under construction and line marking will be completed soon. BOMBOWLEE CREEK ROAD at “Blue Cut” the road drainage was unable to cope with the rain event in March 2012. Part of the road slipped away, some subsided and there was also a land slide, reducing the width of this important timber cartage road. Tumut Shire Council, through Flood Recovery funding, allocated $450,000 for repairs. The scope of the project was to repair the subsidence in the road and prevent any further slippage of the batter. Two km north of “Blue Cut” the creek edge was severely scoured, damaging the adjacent road shoulder and pavement. SnowyWS benched and stabilised the embankment and installed a rock blanket to enable the damage to be repaired. The Tumut Shire Director Engineering Services, Mr John Maxwell said this road is a crucial log haulage road and the damage and potential for further failure was of serious concern to Council, it will be a relief to Council and the timber industry to see these works finally completed’.
