ROADRUNNERS WIN SEASON OPENER; LADY ROADRUNNERS EARN FIRST WIN IN WACO -- Roadrunners Open Season with Win over Lone Star-Cy Fair Lady Roadrunners Get First Win in Waco AC News Service After seeing his team roll to a season-opening, 97-81 on Saturday, Angelina College head coach said his Roadrunners still aren’t where they have the potential to be later in the season. Neighbors used Saturday’s game to experiment with different lineups and rotations, getting 24 points from Deckie Johnson and 20 from Shakir Brown to take down Lone Star College-Cy Fair at Shands Gymnasium. “I told our guys, right now have no clue what our lineups are yet, what are best five, six or seven on the floor,” Neighbors said. “We can play multiple lineups with guys playing different positions. We still have to learn a lot about each other and what we can do. “We have guys we know can play, but they have to take advantage of the time they’re on the floor. They may not get a ton of minutes right now, so they have to make them count.” Ty’Quan Bitting added 16 points of offense and defended the paint with three block shots; and Justice Augmon provided a spark midway through the second half, helping the Roadrunners pull away and finishing with 11 points and five steals. Cy Fair’s Jarvis Nicks led the Ducks with 29 points; teammate Todd Silas added 21. AC built a double-digit lead in the first half, only to see the Ducks chip away until they’d pulled within three points at 66-63. A pair of Augmon steals led to an Orendaz Holloway dunk followed by Augmon’s layup, and Deiondray Martin converted a Cy Fair turnover into an easy transition bucket for a quick 6-0 run, and the Roadrunners never felt threatened the rest of the way. “We know we have plenty to work on,” Neighbors said. “We’re not in synch with some of the things we want to do, but getting the guys game experience will help.” In Waco, the Lady Roadrunners earned their first win of the season by topping Temple College 66-59 behind 13 points from Sandy Rawls and 10 points from Brianna Brown. The Lady ‘Runners lost to McLennan 70-62 on Friday. The Roadrunners will host the East Texas Flight on Sunday at Shands Gymnasium. Game time is 4 p.m.
