ROADS AND OTHER MAJOR PROJECTS BY GOVERNMENT [STATUS] Government has confirmed that plans to construct a new bridge over the Lower Volta was on course, and that a barge [A barge is a flat-bottomed boat, built mainly for river and canal transport of heavy goods] which would ferry people across the lake when the bridge was closed for rehabilitation works. The barge for the Volta Lake is currently under construction in The Netherlands. VOLTA REGION On-going road projects in the Volta Region include the Dode-Papaso-Nkwanta and the Nkwanta-Oti-Damanko portion of the Eastern Corridor. All these road projects, Govermnment have confirmed were progressing steadily. The Hohoe town roads has been completed, while the Ho-Fume, Kpando-Dambai-Worawora, Golokwati-Hohoe road projects were nearing completion. GREATER ACCRA On road projects in the Greater Accra Region, Government has given assurance that work on the Giffard, Burma Camp, Awoshie-Pokuase, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and the Spintex roads had all reached advanced stages of completion. Tetteh-Quarshie-Madina, Achimota-Ofankor, Madina-Pantang, Ashongman-Haatso-Agbogba, Gulf House Link and the Ashaiman-Oyibi road projects are all progressing steadily and will soon see completion. Eastern Region With road projects in the Eastern Region, Government has also indicated that the Anyinam-Konongo-Nkawkaw Bypass was almost complete, while the Koforidua-Bunso and the Nsawam-Aburi road projects were ongoing. Northern Region In the Northern Region, the Buipe-Tamale road is about 75% complete and with the Fulso-Sawla road also progressing gradually. Work on the Tamale-Salaga and Tamale-Kumbungu projects have also reached advanced stages, Government assures.
