ROBBERY – IRVINE Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Irvine on Friday 17 January 2014. Around 1700 hours on Friday evening, a 64 year old woman was robbed of her handbag, containing personal items and some money, by a man who approached her from behind as she walked in the lane leading from Burns Street to Murchland Way, Irvine. During the incident she fell to the ground sustaining injuries to her hands. She was treated at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, and has since been released. The suspect is described as male, white, 20 to 30 years, 5 ft 9 in height, slim build, dark brown hair and had a local accent. He was wearing a dark coloured mid length Parka type jacket (possibly with a fur collar) and washed out jeans. Detective Sergeant Ian Ross, Kilmarnock CID, is appealing for witnesses. He said: “The injured woman was helped by a couple of passers-by who we have managed to speak to but we are keen also to get in contact with the male driver of a Vauxhall Corsa who assisted by driving her to the local police office. We would just like to find out if he witnessed the incident as well. “The lane is used as a shortcut to Murchland Way by locals and the area around it is usually quite busy at this time of the evening. “It is possible that the man responsible had been hanging around prior to the attack and I would ask that anyone who was in the area or who saw the man, contact police on the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
