ROBBERY – PAISLEY Detectives in Paisley are continuing enquiries following a robbery which left a 63 year-old woman seriously injured. Around 1245 hours on Wednesday 22 January 2014, a man entered Clelland Newsagents at 113 Neilston Road, Paisley where he assaulted a member of staff. He then made off with a two-figure sum of cash. The 63 year-old woman had to be taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where she received treatment for her injuries. She has subsequently been released. The male suspect is white, around 5 ft 7 inches in height and was unshaven. He was wearing a black hooded top, with the hood up, dark coloured trousers and was carrying a black rucksack bag with a white motif on it. Officers are in the process of gathering and reviewing CCTV images from in and around the area to find out more detail about the suspect. Detective Sergeant Peter Crombie said: “This has been a particularly violent assault leaving an elderly woman seriously injured and extremely distressed. She has worked in the shop for 26 years and is well known and popular with local people. I’m sure someone in the community has information about the suspect or the incident and I urge them to get in touch with us - please don’t protect a man who is capable of committing such a vile, unprovoked attack on an elderly woman. “This incident happened in the middle of the day in a busy area with a pub and garage nearby, did you see this man, did you notice anything odd, please get in touch with us, any information, no matter how insignificant it seems to you, could prove vital in our investigation and help trace the man responsible.” Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Paisley Police Office on the non-emergency police number, 101. Alternatively, give your information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
