ROCKOLLECTIONS: SALUTE TO RADIO- STRETCHING YOUR IMAGINATION The big 15th Anniversary has come and gone. I had the shocking thought that I started in 1998...the last CENTURY, lol! In the mid-60s, the Radio Advertising Bureau hired Stan Freberg to do a series of Ads touting the benefits of Radio. From the 50s on, Radio was losing listeners badly to Television. Stan Freberg was a very funny Satirist/Comedian, who had made hit records that spoofed just about everyone and everything- TV shows, Movies, Popular Music, even including Elvis. He was a sort of the Weird Al Yankovic of his time, but much more brainy. What he came up with was the Most Brilliant Evocation Anyone Has Ever Attempted Of The Possibilities Of What Radio & Imagination Can Do! Ill have some of those Ads in this Chapter, intermingled with Songs I selected to confirm his inventive work. This episode is simply Fun and History, with wonderful Memories.
