RODERICK HOY has sent us a couple of great photos ... Two photos I took as a youngster with my first camera, the year would be 1955 or 1956. The old and original Rongotai Aerodrome (not known nor ever called airport at that time). One photo is of a deHavilland Heron, the largest of the passenger aircraft to operate from Rongotai. The other is of the original control tower. From memory all the (then) NAC Douglas DC3s normally operated from Paraparamu Airport ... passengers being ferried by coach from the NAC depot almost opposite Queens Wharf in the city to and fro.
