ROOFTOPS (1989) 80s heart-throb Jason Gedrick stars as a breakdancer/street rat who must stop a vicious drug dealer from taking over his neighborhood. This movie is kind of weird. The street scene involves these battles where break dancers square off at each other and the goal it to knock the opponent out of the ring without touching them. So the movie is kind of West Side Story meets Robin Hood with some breakdance brawls thrown in. Gedrick is solid in the lead and made the movie after he struck 80s gold with two Iron Eagle movies. He could have become an action star and Rooftops had the pedigree to move him higher up the ladder but the movie never exploded like the studio hoped. The movie was also directed by the legendary Robert Wise who directed the original West Side Story and won an Oscar for that movie. Wise was responsible for at least six great movies that changed Hollywood. Rooftops was not one. It was more his swansong. (3 out of 5) So Says the Soothsayer youtu.be/yFRZ-6ELjbE
