ROTD#21 (Reflection of the Day) (1/21/15) BLESS THE BEAST AND THE CHILDREN...(read and feel) After our talk in Malabon City University, we had our stopover in the Malabon Zoo. The CBRC topnotchers once again showed the children in them as they played and showed the childlike character seeing some animals in the zoo. It brought us close to the core of our beings as a sand of the earth who may most of the time neglect the beautiful bounty of the universe. Then we met Amang, an old post-polio man who is riding his pedicab to watch over vehicles in the area. He uses his hand in moving the pedal of his pedicab. He smiled and introduced himself as Amang. In his eyes is confidence and pride that he deserve no pity from anyone because he is a productive person living his life to the fullest of his potential. He is not begging. He isnt there to solicit the pity of those who will see him but a man who can inspire those who may have complete physical elements of bring human. Other call him disabled. I call him DIFFERENTLY-ABLED. I saw the beast (animals) caged to communicate the message of environmental conservation as they suffer the imprisonment of their lives and restriction in their freedom to enjoy their childlike nature. Beast as we may see but a creature with equal rigths in this earth. They may have not committed anything wrong to be imprisoned but is imprisoned to be protected, not from themselves but from US. What an irony! Imprisoned to be safe! What an irony indeed. They are fed, protected, nurtured but in an environment that they never chose for themselves but we chose for them because we protect them against us. Sad! And we paid to see them locked up. For food and maintenance as the signage puts it. But for as long as there are children like us to patronized the imprisoned beast, they will keep the lock and justify that it educates us. In this case, i felt we are the beast and they are the children. We exploit them and feel we hold their rights in our hands, and we decide for them. Judge me, but im guilty, but we go home with the lesson that we are beasts victimizing the childlike nature if these animals who, just like us deserve to be free and enjoy the abundance of this universe. Some are harmless and knows nothing but to play just like a child. As Karen Carpenters song Bless the Beast and the Children...For in this world they have no voice. They have no choice. But in the zoo, who is the real beast? Who are the real children? Just like those who pity Amang, we realized such is not necessary because he doesnt ask for it nor deserve it. He isnt learning from our pity, but we learn from his persistence and determination to live life to it fullest. Please post what you feel...) (ROTD is my 2015 advocacy to post thoughts that will challenge mindsets as inspired by my day experience. Feel free to comment provided that we respect ideas and free exchanges. Reminder, this is still my wall and this is my right)
