RUDOLPH’S SISTER MISTLETOE You’ve all heard the story of Rudolph, The reindeer with the glowing red nose. Well here’s a story that’s seldom been told, And this is how it goes. Rudolph wasn’t an only child, A sister was born when he was two years old. She’s quiet and shy with the same red nose, And her name is Mistletoe. She barely leaves her mothers side, Never playing with the other reindeer. Her nose is covered with the same black smut, To hide the glowing red sphere. While Rudolph garnered all the attention, Mistletoe shied from the limelight. Til one Christmas Eve Santa came a knocking, Just before the stroke of midnight. A terrible storm was brewing it seemed, Massive snowfall and fog to come. It was already getting so dim outside, You could barely see your own thumb. Santa went to the cave where Rudolph lived, To ask his dear friend for a light. Rudolph’s mother met Santa at the entrance, For Rudolph was very ill this night. It seems as though he’d been playing all day, On the pond where the ice was thin. And just before they called it a day, The ice broke and Rudolph fell in. His friends were there to pull him out, But by then he was chilled to the bone. Ever since he’s been home, he’s had a fever, And his light has barely shone. Santa didn’t know just what to do, As he made his way back to the shop. It was getting near time to hitch up the sleigh, When suddenly there came a loud knock. Bernard, the head elf, answered the door, And standing there all alone, Was Rudolph’s little sister Mistletoe, Shaking the snow off before entering Santa’s home. She asked to see Mr. and Mrs. Claus, The urgency Bernard understood. He ushered her into the living room, Where the mood was not very good. Santa was just before calling off Christmas, When he turned and saw Mistletoe there. Without saying a word, she removed the smut, And her red nose lit up the air. Santa Claus’ belly began to jiggle, As he grinned from ear to ear. Standing before him was another miracle, There would be Christmas this year. The team was hitched up, with Mistletoe out front, Her bright shining nose lighting the way. The elves quickly packed up Santa’s bag, And loaded more toys on the sleigh. The fog was rent with a glowing red sheen, As Mistletoe guided them into the night. Who would have thought this timid little deer, Could have given off so much light. Then from down below, Mistletoe could see, A soft blinking light of red. Rudolph stood as proud as a peacock, Watching his sister guide Santa’s sled.
