RUSSEL STANDISH r.i.p. I searched the Internet, Hoping to find Some trace Of friend, Whom I had not seen For many years. A man of integrity And Wisdom. Our lives had touched Briefly. We had gone Our separate ways. I read about is life, As a physician, As a missionary, As a writer. And then I paused. He dies six years ago, A motor vehicle Accident. He joins the galaxy Of stars who have Given me light, As I continued On my journey, And who had preceded me Through the doorway To another life. We had not shared beliefs But that was Of no concern. There are some beliefs Which I cannot endorse Because they encourage Actions I cannot countenance. That was not The way it was In our relationship. Each moment Must be cherished. It is a gift Not to be thrown Into a drawer And forgotten. Each episode Of friendship Is a blessing. It may be the soil, harbouring A seed Which can give birth To a tree Of beauty and wisdom.
