RUSSIA TO STOP GIVING RESIDENCY TO NATIONALS OF UKRAINE IN 2015 - TopicsExpress

RUSSIA TO STOP GIVING RESIDENCY TO NATIONALS OF UKRAINE IN 2015 AND STANDARD RULES APPLICABLE TO OTHER COUNTRIES WILL APPLY Relaxed residence rules, earlier granted to citizens of Ukraine, will be scrapped in Russia in 2015, a source in the Federal Migration Service told Interfax. Standard rules, applied to citizens of other countries who travel to Russia without a visa, will be introduced for migrants from Ukraine this year, the source said. Ukrainian citizens will be obliged to secure work patents from individuals or legal entities, the said. Like other migrants from visa-free countries, citizens of Ukraine will have the right to stay in Russia without a permit, or a work patent, or permission to temporarily reside in Russia, during 90 days of the 180-day period, the source said. Federal Migration Service chief Konstantin Romodanovsky said in an interview with Rossiiskaya Gazeta in December, that easier terms could only be offered to Ukrainian refugees. We were lenient and extremely liberal in relation to citizens of Ukraine in 2014. But we are likely to get back to the old pattern in 2015 and deal with Ukrainian citizens compliant with the general rules, except in relation to those who were forced to leave Ukraine and cannot return to that country for objective reasons, he said.
