RUSSIAN SEPARATISTS IN UKRAINE ADMIT WAR CRIME Video, English subtitles. On January 7, 2015 a video was published on one of separatist youtube channels, featuring interview with underage militia soldier. In the course of interview, 14-year old Artyom, while holding AK machine gun, tells the journalist how he joined military Russian kazaki (cossacks) at the Checkpoint No. 1 in town Krasny Luch, Luhansk region. He was given callsign Malysh (Small boy), and goes on duty on the chekpoint, stopping cars, checking documents and searching truncks. Artyom also lives in barracks, as he says - my official registration is Checkpoint Number One. Man with callsign Gnom (Dwarf) says he is an official guardian of the underage Malysh, they live together, and chekpoint regiment are helping underage fighter to do his homework from school. Sometimes, he is given extra duty (punishment for misconduct) for not doing good in schools. Most often extra duty means helping in kitchen. Russian separatist journalist in Ukraine interviews underage Russian militant in Donbas, callsign Malysh. As clearly indicated by authors of video, this boy is currently 14 years old. Human rights law declares 18 as the minimum legal age for recruitment and use of children in hostilities. Recruiting and using children under the age of 15 as soldiers is prohibited under international humanitarian law – treaty and custom – and is defined as a war crime by the International Criminal Court.
