RUSTENBURG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY NOTICE UNPLANNED WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION Some areas within Rustenburg have once again experienced water shortage in the past few days especially the high lying areas of extensions mentioned hereunder. In this regard, the Rustenburg Local Municipality would like to inform residents of Cashan Extensions; Safari Tuine Extensions, Boschdal Extensions; Cashan extensions, Waterval East Extensions and Protea Park Extensions, Bo-Dorp, CBD, Rustenburg East, Rustenburg x1 & 5 about the water levels that have subsided due to the following reasons: • The high water demand that is higher than the supply, particularly experienced during this period of the year. • Low level of Barnardsvlei reservoir supplying water to Rustenburg areas. You are therefore; made aware that from time to time this will affect the level of water on the Municipal reservoirs, resulting in consumers experiencing low pressure or no water at the above-mentioned areas. When alert of high demand is received from the bulk supplier, our Call Centre will be informed accordingly to inform and update the affected residents. Where the Municipal reservoirs reach critical level, the reservoir outlets will be closed during peak period and will be opened as soon as the levels has increased to at least 40% to 50%. During this period water will be provided through water tankers at the affected areas, as an interim measure until the situation returns to normality. Should the situation worsen such that there is no water at all, the following programme for supply of water through tankers will apply. AREAS PROGRAMME 1. Safari x1, 2, 7, 12 & 15 9:00am and 16:00 2. Cashan x 2, 4 & 6 9:00am and 16:00 3. Cashan x 5 & 10 9:00am and 16:00 4. Cashan x 33 9:00am and 16:00 5. Boschdal x 1, 2 & 5 9:00am and 16:00 6. Protea Park x 1 & 2 9:00am and 16:00 The Rustenburg Local Municipality appeals to all consumers in the above mentioned areas including other areas of Town to use water sparingly. The residents in the above mentioned townships including CBD, Cashan extensions, Rustenburgx5, Bo-Dorp; Protea Park extensions, Old Geelhout Park & Kloof are requested to adhere to the following restrictions which must be adhered to and are hereby imposed till further notice: 1. Paving, driveways, or parking areas may not be cleaned with municipal water. 2. No watering / irrigating gardens with municipal water. WATER SAVING TIPS: 1. Use a cup when shaving and brushing your teeth; 2. Use a shower more than bath tub; 3. Use limited water when taking a bath; 4. Use a bucket when washing a car; 5. Protect meters, fire hydrants & taps. 6. Fix all leaks; 7. Cover swimming pool to slow down the evaporation of water; 8. Report water leaks, vandalism and water quality problems immediately. Due to the critical water shortage in the areas mentioned above a fine of R 5000.00 to R 20 000.00 will be imposed on residents including businesses who do not adhere to these water restrictions. The Rustenburg Local Municipality has deployed law enforcement officers to monitor the compliance. Furthermore the Rustenburg Local Municipality appeals to all the consumers to co-operate in this regard in the interest of the affected communities. Rustenburg Local Municipality is in negotiation with water bulk users to assist by limiting their water uses in the effort to increase supply into the areas affected. Customers are once again urged to take heed of the seriousness of the water shortage. Consumers making use of boreholes must clearly indicate the existence of a borehole on their premises. The Municipality would like to thank all consumers for their co-operation and regret any inconvenience caused. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
