RUTH CHAPTER 4 In this final chapter of Ruth, Boaz goes out and does what he promises to Ruth. He went out and gathered the elders and the kinsman-redeemer in order to claim the property that belonged in the family of Naomi and her deceased husband. See, the property of Naomis deceased husband and sons could only be claimed by the kinsman-redeemer, and then Boaz was next in line. However, in claiming this land, the kinsman-redeemer not only acquires the land from Naomi but also Ruth in order to maintain the name of the dead. Unfortunately, the kinsman-redeemer turned down the land due to him not endangering his own estate. They exchanged shoes (a form of legalizing a transaction back then), and Boaz went and claimed the land and married Ruth, who eventually would become the genealogy of David. In this chapter, Boaz exemplifies what a man (walking with the Lord) should be. God-fearing, hard working, bold, a provider, and a man of his word; all the many qualities God intends a man to have. One thing that I personally got from this chapter is that men need to be MEN. Boaz told Ruth that he would get her married or marry her himself and he kept his word. Also in doing this he did it immediately, knowing the woman of noble character he had in his presence. Boaz, was surrounded by women everyday but it was Ruth that he took notice of and married. In saying that I say this, men take responsibility for and appreciate what you have in your presence (either your wife, fiance, woman of interest). God made man for one woman, not 3-5. How many of you men have lost a woman of noble character because you werent man enough to take ownership of or too young minded to see what you had...MAN UP! Some of you men are in situations (child support, baby-mama drama, multiple partners, financial instability, etc.) because of situations you created. You see, Im not saying...Oh, get up and get married today...No! Im saying...put Got first, let him develop you as a man, deal with all the issues that may have hindered you in your life, and find your God-given purpose FIRST...then He (meaning God) will lead you to your wife. Who knows? The one decision you make in pursing God first, establishing yourself, your purpose, and your wife could just be the genealogy (a line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor) that leads to the creation of a King (their genealogy lead to King David). -Shenique
