RUTHERFORD,NJ – A man jumped in front a Hoboken-bound NJ Transit train and was struck and killed Monday evening, an agency spokeswoman said. The train’s engineer sounded the horn as it approached the Rutherford station, the spokeswoman, Nancy Snyder, said. The engineer then saw the man, who was standing on the platform, leap in front of the train, she said. The train was not carrying any passengers and none of the crew members were injured, she said. The incident happened at 5:50 p.m. in the vicinity of Park and Railroad avenues, just east of the Rutherford station, Snyder said. The man who was killed has not yet been identified. New Jersey Transit police are continuing to investigate.
