RYAN JOYCE’s MOM, AVID BICYCLIST, & WEST SIDE JEFFERSON PARK NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENT SUPPORTS OUR CAMPAIGN! Photographed, along Lorain Avenue, near West 134th Street, during a 1.5-hour demonstration in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on 11-11-14. Note: Ryan Joyce, Lakewood resident, was photographed, along Lorain Avenue, near West 140th Street, on 11-05-14. LEAVE PUBLIC SQUARE ALONE! DON’T CLOSE ONTARIO STREET! DON’T NARROW SUPERIOR AVENUE! DON’T MESS UP THE TRAFFIC! So far the campaign has demonstrated 41-times for nearly 140-hours – mostly in Public Square. A number of residents from the neighborhood travel to downtown and use both Ontario Street and Superior Avenue. The proposed $32 million (with a majority of the money being contributed by our money-laden foundations) radical makeover of Public Square will require the permanent closing of Ontario Street and the narrowing of Superior Avenue from the existing 77 ft. to 44 ft. and limiting the avenue to bus traffic only. However, when there are major events, the narrowed Superior Avenue will also be closed to bus traffic The plan is to complete the radical makeover of Public Square in time for the Republican Convention in June 2016. However, as of 11-12-14, the RTA which has 4,000 buses visiting Public Square every day – has not signed off on the makeover. The radical makeover is being actively opposed by the LEAVE PUBLIC SQUARE ALONE campaign. One has to stand at the main intersection of Public Square and quickly conclude that the traffic has nowhere to go – except create nightmares.
