Rabbi Berel Lazar asks on Jewish community of Ukraine to be peacemakers, not division factor Moscow, March 17, Interfax – Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar has called on the Jewish community of Ukraine to help strengthen unity and not let anyone use them for fuelling militant tendencies in Ukraine. “I understand that the Jews of Ukraine, including the heads of Jewish communities, are deeply integrated in the public processes of their country. Nevertheless, I am calling on the leaders of Ukrainian Jews to do their best to ensure that the Jewish community of Ukraine be the voice of common sense and peacekeeping and, God forbid, not become another factor of division and militant tendencies in these difficult days,” Lazar was quoted by his press service as saying on Monday. He said he prays to God to bring peace to Ukraine and to bring live back to people’s hearts, recalling that “God’s name is Peace.” Lazar said he is following the events in Ukraine, which is now going through “the tragic moments of its existence as a state a unified nation, and society, with alarm and pain.”
