Rabbi Beyer responds, "CONVERSION OPTIONAL" Judaism does - TopicsExpress

Rabbi Beyer responds, "CONVERSION OPTIONAL" Judaism does not seek converts. There are many paths to G-d, many ways to be righteous. For those who choose conversion, the process takes a year or more of study and commitment to a Jewish life. Study includes Jewish theology, rituals, customs, culture and history. At the end of the process, converts are welcomed and given a Hebrew name. They are recognized as a “Jew by choice” and welcomed as a “member of the tribe.” Regardless of which Jewish community one chooses, being Jewish is not only about, or even mainly about, what you believe. It’s about your practice. Each year we hopefully experience and understand more about G-d, people and ourselves. Lifelong learning is expected. Being Jewish means becoming more compassionate, ethical and humble. In my experience, people who convert are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They understand Judaism is an effective spiritual technology for life’s journey.
