Rabbi Brian Walt The Prophetic Challenge: Breaking Silence, Speaking Truth Inaugural Theodore Parker Lecture December 7, 2014, 2 pm Theodore Parker Church, 1859 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA UUs and their guests are invited to honor the legacy of theologian and activist Theodore Parker, the bold 19th-century proponent of social justice. Our speaker, Rabbi Brian Walt, was a student activist in South Africa, worked with Rabbis for Human Rights in Israel, and was a founder of Rabbis for Human Rights North America. He is a member of the Rabbinical Council of Jewish Voice for Peace and is rabbi emeritus of Congregation Mishkan Shalom, an activist synagogue that he founded in Philadelphia. Rabbi Walt will address why Israel-Palestine is an issue that must engage all of us, despite the difficulties, despite the controversies. This will be the first in a series of annual lectures that feature clerics or theologians whose work reflects Theodore Parker’s drive to bend the arc of the moral universe towards justice.
