Race Report World Championships Hafjel/Nor “The World Championships is one day, one race, one chance. And everything has to go right. You have to find the rhythm. For Ralph the rhythm came, but it came too late. The start was...well this year I have had many bad starts, and it was the same here again. With such a tightly packed field there was nowhere to go, especially once the race entered the tight, twisty and technical forest sections where when one guys slips, everybody has to stop. Even when Ralph could engage full speed and pass a group, one small mistake would see them catch up again. I knew that if I could just find my rhythm then maybe I could get a top ten. But of course everyone has trained hard so that they can also find their rhythm at the World Championships. Everybody was so strong. Eventually things fell into place and Ralph began working his way through the field, moving higher and higher. From his position at the start, a tenth place finish was all that could realistically be asked for, and it was achieved. I wanted to finish top five at least, but I must be happy with tenth place. Next up is the Swiss Epic, and then some cyclocross racing, but after a long season it is now time to enjoy some rest.”
